There is the Far North Gardening Facebook group page, but I find it is better for posting photos rather than discussion. Still a good resource though.

There is also the forum farnorthgardening.ca. A smaller group, but good info as well.

There appeared to be a lot of upset when garden web got taken over by houzz, which I think is why there is less activity compared to past years.

For me, there is too much of a wealth of information here to "leave." The search function and archived posts is huge benefit to this forum, it is easy for me to look up comments about a particular plant. The Facebook group is super active which is great, and people share lots of links, but it does not have the ability for a user to easily search for a look up specific comments. And when you post, it links to ones personal profile, which I prefer to keep separate. My understanding is the old GardenWeb forums was run by volunteers. I can understand why they made the transition, it is a lot of work. Even for the Facebook group, I am sure it takes effort to monitor and take care of things. At least there are resources out there!

I come back and check here several times a week just to see what's what. Often nothing. I agree about the info that's here and the way a person can search for it. That was mentioned a year ago when the Facebook forum was first formed.

I don't think this was run by volunteers. Started out with Spike and I don't remember if he was associated with anyone and then he sold out to someone in the early 2000s. Not sure if it was to iVillage then or who. This place stayed the same for many years but is a lot different now. I would participate in both places if this was more active, but I do check at least. :)

Yeah, I'm not aware of any really active gardening forums for us in Canada. For garden chatting, I do like the facebook group. You can get really fast answers and I like to keep seeing the names that used to be around here. But for in-depth, wealth-of-info stuff, I still come back here regularly and use the search feature. There is so. much. wisdom archived here! Plus, there is still some help to be had here, especially for fruit growers!

I, also, don't frequent here as often as before the take over. I also miss some of the people on this forum but just don't have the time to be on so many forums.

SCG, shame on you for not making the time for us, lol ... we miss your great sense of humor! Mind you, I haven't been posting a heck of a lot myself, though will probably get back into things as the new garden season hit its stride.
