Well, thanks guys!! Annette - I must look for that book. Plantladyco, I just spoke to Becky at Green Prints and have ordered a subscription - their web site does not recognize Canada - lol. So, we will see about this magazine, and I may order English Gardens again. It is mostly what I call 'garden porn' as most of it I can't grow, but it sure is a good read with amazing pictures and great ideas for hardscapes.

Annette- that story re the strawberries rings a bell... Try reading 'Old Herbaceous' by Reginald Arkell. I think that's where that is from.

Woody, thank you so much, I think that's the one :). How I got Capability Brown mixed up with this who knows, my mind works in mysterious ways LOL. 'Old Herbaceous' seems to be ringing a belI :), I know I can read this on line but I'd like to have the book in my library. I have been looking for this for a long time without any luck, again thank you.

Nancy, have you read any of Des Kennedy's books, they really can put a smile on your face. Not only is he good with words he's an avid gardener, his garden is pure enchantment, I've been to his garden a couple of times over the years and each time when I went through the gate it almost took my breath away.

Fine Gardening and Horticulture often have something. I try to catch them at the public library, have spent too much over the years on random individual copies from the newstand. Also tend to look at the one or two British gardening mags the library has. Unfortunately, BBC Gardener's World is not one of them - there was a time when I was more interested in following that one than usual.

Where I am climate conditions are more similar to those of Britain than most of North America. But we don't have their yearround rain, and of course there are differences in pests, products and which specific plants are on the market. And going by the recurring garden and gardener profiles it appears to be routine there for a few people to get huge amounts of gardening done - I don't know how they manage it. One story I read comparatively recently this working professional couple had developed and was keeping - by themselves - probably at least an acre of borders and other features they had developed on a country place they had bought.

I've turned to the internet in recent years. Mags keep getting more expensive, thinner and more ads. Also I find the quality of photos declining. I still do like Fine Gardening, and will pick up GardensWest on occasion.

My garden magazine is Pinterest lol, I stopped buying garden magazines too as they got so expensive but Pinterest is like every magazine and garden blog and you name it all rolled into one. I have boards created for several different things garden related good for eye candy, inspiration and knowledge and all for free! lol Plus like you Annette I would rather spend the money on plants. ;) ~Meghan

I love Fine Gardening magazine. Great articles, beautiful pictures and wonderful advice on regional plant favorites. Another favorite is English Garden magazine. Amazing pictures. Very beautiful. A new garden magazine that I picked up and instantly fell in love with is Garden Design. I love cottage gardening and all three of these magazines provide inspirational ideas for me.

I've been hanging on to many garden magazines. I love Garden Design and Fine GArdening. I used to enjoy Fine Kitchen Garden (and still keep a copy) but that went out of circulation. Mother Earth News - much about homesteading but I love features on compost, building that great soil, and vegetable gardening. Garden Gate for designs. I love BBC garden magazines. PINTEREST is a favorite. My old BLISS (Victorian magazine) for inspiration.

I read about Des Kennedy's garden.. Many years ago there was a feature on TV that showed him and his garden. Im astonished as to how he managed to build his home and his garden from scratch.
