Indeed, it's now at about 2.5 feet and I've found two more sprouts. At this rate, I'll likely see blooms in June or before maybe...wow.

Occasional new kinds of plants tried here are spoiled by slugs before they even make it into the ground, this was one of those. As I remember it they even slimed up onto a table to get it, demonstrating why I never see this around.

Whereas P. caerulea is a kind of standard item at independent garden centers here, with some properties having it covering entire house walls.

And fruiting.

I have a P caerulea x, 'Clear Skies' to go in this year...

Danny, the original start of my p. Incense came from either the mid-west or back east so I assume it takes cold weather. I wish I kept a better record of plants I've traded. I've had this passiflora well over 10 years, which started out as a 5-7 inch start that took off immediately. Are you able to detect that beautiful scent?

Yes, last summer I categorized it it like a soft powder scent (and I am old enough to remember my grandmother using a powder). Very distinctive though.

I think it smells like jasmine and honey. Mine has not even woken up from dormancy yet, so this is just what I remember from last year. I remember talc, too!

It's just amazing when we're not even past the average frost free date (though this winter was hardly a winter).

This April I planted my Passiflora Incense near a small trellis at my mailbox and it was pretty passive until a couple of weeks ago. Then one vine started to grow like crazy, adding a "2 leaves+flower bud" segment every couple of days. The 2nd of the 3 vines in it took off a few days ago as well. I like the look of the flowers and fragrance, but I am surprised that each flower only stays open for 1 or 2 days, then it closes and stays closed for a few more days until it falls off. Each flower opens in the same order as the vine grew, from the bottom to the top of the vine. So now I have no more than one flower open each day. Is this a typical Passiflora way of blooming? Will it get better with time, meaning longer blooming time per flower, or more active vines with flowers?
