Trying to improve exterior look of this bungalow, need low fence and planting ideas

Very nice. I lived in Boulder for a number of years and had a 1915. Denver has some great revitalization of those bungalows. Glad to see you tackling this home.
Ok, you have great bones but need a stronger color to give all those details some pop. I'd paint the house in a deep shade (moss green, charcoal, or a smokey teal will pick up the tones of the flagstone) and paint out all the architectural details in white. Paint the windows a deeper or complimentary color.

The swoop of the dormer is great and I'd love to see that area played up a bit. I'd remove the vinyl in that area and replace with cedar shake, then paint to match the house. It'll introduce some nice texture and is an appropriate craftsman material. I'd also add a little extra detail, maybe a brackets or vertical elements.

Regarding landscape. I'm not a fan of the flagstone on the stair risers, looks tacked on. I'd go with a low fence (3'H) in the front, stepped back from the curb 3-4 feet, just past the step. This will allow you space to plant in front of the fence which adds a nice, soft, transition to the curb. A wood option with a simple craftsman pattern would be really nice.

I'd like to see a xeriscape type garden. Something that ties in with the rugged beauty of the state, is water-wise, while maintaining a classic style.

Use a color from the walkway stone. The creamy yellow looks good, or are you trying to stay true to 1913? I'd love to see the porch made more Craftsman style.

All these suggestions are great. I love cottage gardens. They're work to plant intially but provide so much visual beauty. If you design gravel or mulch paths through the plantings, it's less work in the end.

Roses, salvia and what looks like Alchemilea Mollis (which I'd replace with Artemisia). You could do it in warmer colors to match your house. Peach roses, orange or red Salvia and a Heuchera.

Although roses are gorgeous, be careful with the type. In CO, they need to be able to handle wind, heavy clay and lean soils, some drought, heat, intense ultraviolet radiation, and rapid temperature changes. You'd probably need to go with a native rose if you must have roses. Maybe something like Desiree Parmentier.

The Fairy is a low-care rose. Lots of positive characteristics. Blooms like crazy.

Pink, summer heat can turn the flowers almost white.. Mild, apple fragrance. 25 petals. Average diameter 1.5". Small, double (17-25 petals) bloom form. Continuous (perpetual) bloom throughout the season.

Arching, armed with thorns / prickles, compact. Glossy, dark green foliage.
Height of 2' to 4'. Width of 2' to 4'.

USDA zone 4b through 9b. Can be used for container rose, ground cover or hedge. Hardy. shade tolerant. Disease susceptibility: very disease resistant.
