Hi there!

I bought a fig a few months back that was in pretty sad shape. Thin trunk, no leaves, etc. Bad eBay purchase. I potted it up and it perked up, and grew a few leaves. Right now it is inside (I am in MN it is still too cold to go out) and underneath a high powered fluorescent grow light that keeps all of my tropicals happy - potted citrus, mostly. It's pretty close to the light - 6 inches away, it hangs right above the plants - and with the arrival of spring it has exploded and added a few inches of growth in just a few weeks.

My problem comes in because this new growth is loooong. Whereas the old growth has a very short internodal distance between leaves (where the figs grow so the more spaces like that the better) the new growth has a really large space between leaves, it looks almost like a leggy plant does even though it's under a grow light powerful enough to keep even the most finicky sun loving plants happy and flourishing over the winter. I have only fertilized it once when I first started noticing new growth weeks ago after I got it, since then it's just been water. I gave it a drink of the Foliage Pro I give my citrus.

Is there a way to slow this down? Or, ideally, keep the growth speed (I'm loving it!) but decrease the amount of space between leaves? Or is that normal? The old growth nodes are about 1/2 inch and the new stuff is about 3/4 to a full inch between. I see on the older growth - the current trunk- it is farther spaced as well, so maybe that's normal and the tighly bunched leaves are the weird ones.
