4X4 post cap

the Woodway 4x4 postcap says it fits a max post size of 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"...Does this mean it will not actually fit my 4" by 4" post? A bit confusing...

A typical wood 4x4 is really 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" which is what the cap is made for. However, rough sawn 4 x4's are a true 4"x4", and the cap will not fit.
