My vet encouraged me to get Kirby's teeth cleaned as tartar accumulation (and peridontal disease) is the main cause of chronic mouth disease which permits bacteria to infect the tonsils. Also, it's quite common in small dogs.

Hey, don't forget ice cream for your dog! That was my consolation when I had mine taken out:)

Teeth were cleaned at the track last year at time of being given up - they are all evaluated but virtually all need it as they eat only "soft" food while there.

Yesterday my Vet examined her teeth and gums and could find no concerns. (Dog not sedated.)

PS I had my tonsils removed as a child... they promised me all the ice cream I could eat post-surgery.

They lied.

Mine lied too. I just got jello in recovery.

I thought I was the only one that didn't get ice cream post tonsillectomy.

Now I'm thinking it's gotta be a conspiracy.....

I got ice cream. Soooo many decades ago!

Wanted to follow up if someone searching in the future stumbles on this thread. Just finished the course of TEMARIL P 3X/DAY (Antihistamine and Predisone) after seven days.

Have two more days to go on the DOXYCYCLINE 1X/DAY (Tetracycline.)

All symptoms have been "cured." Note, we never determined the underlining cause of the inflammation of the tonsils. I plan no further action unless there is a recurrence of the tonsillitis.

I will come back and update this thread if there is a recurrence.
