need front door color - house going on market soon

This is our little house in Portland, OR. It's going on the market in a few days and we are trying to choose a door color. Suggestions so far are Peacock Blue SW0064 or some kind of green. I don't like red with this blue and my husband has overruled yellow. Any input is appreciated!

Having lived int he Portland area for a while we can take more risks: I would suggest SW 6373 something close to the color of the potted flowers on the porch.

Thank you. I think any peach or orange is a no go :-). I agree about taking risks though. Definitely want a pop of color.

    Lime green. Like this:

It's Portland - something bold is expected. The lime green or canary yellow options would look great, but don't rule out a pumpkin or gourd color, like Ben Moore's Yellow Marigold. It would also help to add a third color to strengthen your palette. Consider replacing or painting your street numbers so they are a feature and a visual focus.

    Yellow, sorry!

    Navy Blue.

I do agree with the yellow, but my husband hates the idea, darnit! This is an old pic, so there is more landscaping in the front now. I agree with new street numbers too!

I don't think this is the best representation, but I did the color visualizer on Sherwin Williams. Here is Peacock Blue

How about SW 6430 Great Green?

Grasshopper SW6733. The swatch looks darker

Peacock Blue doesn't work- It calls for pale yellow, burnt orange or leave it white for the buyers imagination.

Our real estate market is so hot right now it will sell regardless of what you do for curb appeal. We closed on our house 6 hours after it hit the market.

I also agree that yellow or a shade of red that would look great with the house color would be what I would do but I understand if you or your husband do not want those colors. I do like the bright green door above my post. SW Peacock Blue is too dark but I do suggest SW 6765 - Spa or something in that color family. Good luck with selling your house!

    Adorable house, by the way!

I love bold front doors, and would also choose red or orange here. I like the lime option, also. Remember that colors appear much lighter outdoors. Your house IS adorable. I really like the blue paint.

    Phoebe's green is awesome.

    Traditional brown

Surveys show that homebuyers say they prefer doors that are white or red. The next most popular colors are blue, green and brown. Keep in mind that you need to keep the door looking fresh and clean. White can be difficult to keep looking that way.

Pink (or mauve) is the least favorite door color and may keep a buyer from even making an offer. Other unpopular colors are are orange, purple, grey and yellow.

That's good to know Jillian! I'm so glad I chose red to go on all my exterior doors!

I'd leave it as is....looks fine and the new owners will pick their own front door color.

Hang a great wreath...spend a bit more on it...maybe your local garden center has something fresh.

I don't think you can go wrong with a rich, vibrant red! Red energizes people and it will instantly draw the eye! And should a buyer prefer another color, it isn't permanent such as kitchen cabinetry, etc - paint is the easiest re-do. Then add really colorful flowers - I would suggest bright yellows (since your husband doesn't like yellow doors, can he stomach yellow blossoms?)

Thank you all for the great input! Don't think we'll leave it as is. The current color was painted by our tenants and it was not done well. The landscaping is getting a major cleanup tomorrow and it is going to be professionally staged. I will check to see if they can do plants and a wreath! This is the current state of affairs ;-) Unfortunately, we're on the other side of the country, otherwise color choice would be much simpler.

Buying is definitely the way to go in Portland, that way you get locked in at one set price and don't have to keep worrying about the constant rent hikes.

The current color may not have been done well, but the red is PERFECT for this house. And perfect for Portland.

    Royal or bright sea blue.

Do any of these work? All Benjamin Moore colors.

    Crushed Velvet
    Dark Burgundy
    Rich Coral
    Sweet Pea

Love the sweet pea- and it fits the area.

I would vote for sweetpea or rich coral.

Just a thought. If you are trying to sell it pick the color that will sell. Don't worry about yours or your husband's personal tastes. Hopefully it won't be yours for long. Ask the realtor what sells best in your area then do that.

Robins egg blue front doors is my new obsession. This is SW Watery.
I agree that a light turquoise blue such as SW Watery would be a great choice.
Turquoise or light blue are not good colors for your current house color. I would pick a complimentary color from the color wheel if you want it to pop. Red or orange would be best. Agree, don't worry what you like, but what will appeal to most buyers.

Great reminder to focus on buyers rather than personal preference. Since so many suggested yellow, here is the suggestion by our realtor's designer. I quite like it and am working on the husband :-)

I vote red with a beautiful yellow spring type small flower wreath.

Go for it, the worst that could happen is they paint over it after they buy the house. If they do it's their problem. :)

Navy, Black or White. I think they are safe colors for a house on the market.

Go with the red. Red doors sell. You have to look at your house like it isn't yours. Red planters at the end of the sidewalk would look nice.

I like the white door because it complements the roof. However, if I were forced to pick a color, it would be BM Cinnabar or BM Dark Burgundy (which is the color of my door).

orange, same value as the body of the house :-)
