Tiny h.evansiae in bud already

Last year I bought a small h.evansiae bulb, with the hope of getting pollen to cross onto my existing h.evansiae. Little did I know that h.evansiae is one of those species that can never produce seeds of its own species. All plants of it are apparently either clones or offsets. No wonder my efforts led to nothing!



ANYWAY, the little newbie iniated a flower spike last week, in spite of the plant being only 1" wide. I may not pollinate this one, just because it's so tiny. It seems like there are a number of hipp species that bloom fairly fast from small bulbs. Has anyone noticed the same characteristics in other species hipps?
