Some counties have agencies which assists homeowners with either technical or physical assistance. Look Soil and Water, also NRCS.

What is the soil these are growing in like? Horsetail evolved as a wet land plant although it has adapted to grow in dryewr soils today. Correcting the soil conditions it grows in is the best method of eliminating this plant.

Yes I have had wet areas not removed however the horsetail once established come when it is our rainy season and are now established. Have tried many different chemicals recommended by OSU extension service, used the recommended herbicide Sledgehammer last year to no avail and now the horsetail are in advanced stages.

Just checking to see if anyone has any Great Results to get rid of horsetail.

There are no 'Great Results' when it comes to eliminating horsetails!! It's been around since the dinosaurs and any plant that has survived that long has developed some amazing adaptations for survival. And pay no attention to "correcting soil conditions" to eliminate - that will have absolutely no bearing on its removal. It will grow easily anywhere, even in very dry conditions. I've seen it emerge from cracks in old concrete driveways and along dry, sunny, gravel banks.

Persistence is your best bet. Remove the top growth as soon as you see it emerge through the soil. You won't get all the roots (they are deep and interconnected), but not allowing any top growth to remain will prevent the plant from photosynthesizing and that will eventually weaken it to the point where it dies out. But a complete eradication s difficult to achieve and will take several seasons.

My nursery uses Crossbow to control horsetails in various areas and it seems to work with at least 2 applications but you will need to be careful of whatever else may be growing in the vicinity. And you cannot use this product where it might migrate into any waterways.

The rough, scaly outer surface of the plant tends to be resistant to herbicides so you may have better luck spraying on the cut stems if a large, dense infestation.

As I said, removing it will be an extended project.

As described in the pdf at the link I added, it will take at least 4 years to starve the roots.

As gardengal said, removal requires persistence.

If you are treating just once a season/year, the horsetail will win.
