Darker floor to contrast lighter cabinets

Just a quick aside Minwax stains are really a consumer grade product and not ideal for an investment like your floors. I would hold off and get better product, and there are so many out there that get discussed here on a regular basis. And note that oak is a very tricky wood species to paint as it has a distinct grain pattern that will not give you a smooth finish easily without substantial prep. This sounds like a DIY endeavor..?

Are you sure about going with white cabinets? With the black appliances and the copper sink I think there are better options out there that will compliment the stone better as well as the appliances.

Here's some of the gray tones found in your countertops. The computer picks up many colors but these are a few (I'm partial to Grayish).

Here's a pic of Dove White cabs. Very similar counters, too.

A dark floor will show all the dust. I really like the walnut. Are these stains or are you putting in a new floor?

Special walnut is my favorite--it's a great medium brown with no red or orange tones.

I like the top one, medium wood

Maybe look into general finishes or duraseal or Rubio monocoat. Tons of great colors out there.

3 - Jacobean. The other 2 have too much yellow/orange in them.

I like the top out of the 3 it goes very well with the copper and counter

I don't think you can go wrong with special walnut or provincial. The third is just too dark imo.....

Minwax Dark Dark Walnut on Red Oak, water popped, with Bona Traffic finish.

This darkened the floor but not very much, Minwax is not that great for this.

Rubio oil especially with their Precolor stain might get you closer to Walnut.

Below is a Rubio Precolor Mastic Brown + Walnut oil over Brazilian Cherry.

This will receive Bona Traffic once the project is finished.

Here the client wanted to remove the redness but you might prefer lighter Precolor over Oak.

Wow! Thank you all for your thoughts and visuals. We hired a company to sand and stain for us. Since I love all three I went with the middle. This is such a hard call. It's Dura Seal Provincial. I am hoping for a rich brown color change from the yellowed natural color. The stain goes on in 4 days, so I still have some time. I have 600 sq. ft. With LOTS of Windows and tall two story ceilings. So I'm thinking the medium dark will be good.
