There are porcelain tiles that look like marble and will not have any maintenance. You can probably use marble finish pieces and it will still not be a maintenance headache.

Porcelain tiles are beautiful! That would be a good choice.

I have used marble in MANY baths on every surface with zero issues. I will admit nobody colors their own hair at home, but anything and everything short of that has been no issue whatsoever.

I have marble in the shower and everywhere else in the bathroom. It does require sealing each year, but other than that, it's not too bad in the shower. And I do colour my own hair (!), and it has no effects on the marble.

Natural Stone upkeep is a lot more but provides beauty and earthly tones. If you want low maintenance go with porcelain tile. Here is an example of Dal tile with natural stone I did for a customer

we have just installed a marble shower floor with porcelain tile on the walls. now I'm worried...what can I use to clean both without damaging the marble?

No drop in tubs with a tub shower situation unless you want leaks behind the walls. No marble unless you can deal with etching, staining, and rusting. All of which is natural and normal.

Marble on horizontal surfaces is usually not much of an issue. I do suggest a porcelain tile for the floor. Florida Tile has Carrara porcelain in the Gallant series that I have used a number of times. Ceramic Tileworks, Olimpia in Silver, 3x3 is great for a shower floor to go with Carrara.

We had a ton of help from the folks at the Tile Shop, and we chose a porcelain for the bottom 6o inches of the shower and a marble for the top. We are doing a hex marble shower floor. The bathroom floor is a porcelain. I am so excited about my bathroom!

I personally hate how nasty grout can get... Have you considered a "poured marble" solution? I'm not going to tell you it's the bathroom of my dreams, but we have a large walk-in shower that we have decided to use poured marble to eliminate grout lines. I can post a pic when it's completed.

You can use a traditional 3”x6” subway tile for the shower walls. White always looks nice and tends to hold up to trending colors over time. I’d use a natural stone tile or a medium colored porcelain tile for the shower floor and main bath floor as a compliment. Something neutral (grey, beige, taupe) on the floor would allow you a broad range of colors in wall paint.

Before that installer leaves make sure he water tests and seals that floor to your liking as marble mosaic floors are the biggest issue in showers.

I love all the people saying that they have never had a problem with marble in showers?? How is that possible? Ask ANY tile installer and they will tell you installing marble in a shower is their biggest call backs and issues. You have to make sure the homeowner is fully aware of all of the issues and most will make them sign a waiver.

Marble is soaks up water and is porous which creates most of the issues. Carrera marble which is the most likely choice is a soft stone that stains very easily. Homeowner has to like a rustic look as the stone will chip, discolor, and scratch very easily. It scratches so easily that even grout can create an issue. Yes, everybody says use non sanded grout but the issue is a lot of these mosaics have larger grout lines that need a sanded grout.

Installer must back butter every tile and not spot install. Shower pans have to have correct slop and make sure that weep holes are open and working as that is biggest complaint, wet spot around drain.

I have marble floor in my own house and yes it is scratched, chipped , etc but that is look we knew well before hand. When wet some are darker then others, etc. It is a great look but make sure you know what it looks like in person not a pretty picture on the internet when the tile is not sealed and not wet.
