Turned out nice and looks like a comfortable room. Don't recall seeing the drop front desk before. My grandmother had a similar one and we all loved sitting/playing at it. Are the shelves adjustable in your bookcases? He did a nice job installing.

I just noticed your chair seats -- that looks so much like the tapestry that I brought back from the country of Jordan and have on my antique oak British pub chairs (that go with an oak British pub table)...mine were in my library in my previous home. I've not gotten to that room here.

Yayagal, I think Penny must be at least part Russian Blue. She certainly has the look! She adopted us about three years ago and we aren't even sure where she came from, so can't be certain of her "pedigree." Her fur feels just lovely though!

Allison, that little drop front desk was in the nook of our upstairs master at our previous home. I picked it up at an antique mall a number of years ago and it's not in perfect condition but I don't know that I could bring myself to part with it. It's a cute little size. And yes, the shelves are adjustable but I kinda like them all at the same level in each section.

Trailrunner, I love that you have walking sticks displayed too! Mine were made by my dad and me, and thy have both been all over the canyons of Utah and a number of other really remote and beautiful places. Just old sticks to some people, but to me they are real treasures.

I happen to be in the room right now, having just put aside my book when Pip jumped up on my lap. The earlier view was from a different angle. We moved the table and chairs over by the window and really like it there. :-)

Thanks so very much! And yes, the room is definitely Penny-approved. She napped on the wingback chair most of the day yesterday. The kind of napping where the cat goes upside down and the eyeballs roll back into the skull. I don't think they get much more comfy than that. ;-)

Forgot to answer maddielee's question as to whether this was a bonus room or extra bedroom. It does not have a door (just an arched opening from the landing) - as you can see in this pic that was taken before the new chair arrived and the old chair was moved back to the landing, where the wicker chair sits in this pic.

The builder called this a game room, and I suppose a pool table would've fit just fine - but that's not our style. We'd much rather sit and read. :-)

I am in the planning stages of some built-ins flanking a window and have a few questions. What type of wood are they made of? Are the shelves pre-cut boards?Are they made of plywood? Paint - are they spray painted or brush painted? What paint was used? Are the shelves fixed or adjustable? Lots of questions I know. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Tuesday, how exciting that you are planning built-ins! Can't wait to see photos of what you end up doing. The wood is 3/4" "top choice" maple plywood and solid Douglas Fir. The shelves are separate boards with trim detailing, and are adjustable. The units were spray painted with SW satin in Alabaster, and brush touched-up following the install. If I had to do it over again, I might opt for a glossier finish, as these pieces are rather matte - but still pretty, I think.
