I need help with a fig cutting

I have a fig cutting that has been in a pot for about 5 weeks. I noticed a "bud" growing about 2 weeks ago and some roots as well. But now I realize its not a bud at all but an actual fig. No leaves showing yet on the cutting. Should I remove the fig so that leaves will be encouraged to grow, or leave it as is?

Gently remove the fig so energy goes to root and leaf growth

its going to kill me to do it but i guess its the right way. would you use a razor or just pull it?

Either a razor blade, or a small clippers. Just be gentle and be aware that a leaf should emerge from the same node later.

Should I seal the area where I cut it? It's oozing fluid

It stops oozing after a few minutes. Be careful with the sap, if you get it on a sensitive area of skin that is exposed to sunlight it can cause a nasty burn. Always wash it off with soap and water right away.

wow that was quick! I cut the figlet off and within 2 days a new bud sprouted from higher up on the cutting! Thanks for the advice!
