Compare to Acoris. It looks like it without a close up of the leaves.

Acoris is my favorite water plant. I don't think that is what you have. Your picture has finer and probably shorter 'leaves'. I don't think your picture is of a water plant.

However, if your situation involves water or damp conditions, then acoris (Sweet Flag) could be what you want. However it grows a foot tall and the clumps get big.

Can the clumps be managed so they stay similar to the size shown in the photo? Thanks for the advice

I don't think you would want to manage/cut them back. I am in 7b; perhaps if you are further north, acoris wouldn't grow as big. I think you will find examples of your picture at Home Depot or Lowes and of course at real nurseries. I just don't recall the names.
