I have found the usual at my local nursery, but always what I have already. I have been ordering for a few years, and never disappointed in what I order from Brushwood Nursery, gardenvines.com . I just placed an order a few weeks ago, you pick your ship date according to when you want to plant, your safe frost date, the plants are always healthy, and I have never had a problem with any of my orders over the past few years. I love to buy local when I can, but, I am in a rural area, and most local nurseries stock the common best sellers that I already have. Brushwood doesn't carry every thing I want, but they have a great stock. I have also ordered clematis from Bluestone Perennials, and they guarantee for one year, and did replace a few clematis no questions asked a few years ago when I was just beginning to grow clematis.. Those are the two I would recommend. Also Clematis on the web.com has great information. I know I have ordered from other places, but, these are the two that I have been the most impressed with. Brushwood is in Georgia, and since you are in the south of Texas, you should be right in their zone! You should be able to grow fabulous clematis in your area! I would have to call us the extreme North and South of Texas! Happy Clematis hunting...

Like Dave, I've been quite happy with Brushwood, and have ordered 3/4 of my plants from them. They have quite a variety of choices. I've also ordered from Bluestone (smaller plants for what you pay unless on sale, but have grown well), Joy Creek (slightly larger and more expensive, but grow well), Hummingbird Farm (same size as Brushwood, but a bit more expensive; relatively local for me) and Silver Star Vinery (large plants, well grown).

Each nursery offers a different set of choices, so I have ordered from all of them more than once and have gotten healthy plants from all of them. All of them are nurseries I would recommend as sending healthy plants that are ready to grow in your garden, but some, being larger when shipped, will bloom well sooner.

I've also bought one from a local nursery, but the choices available tend to be early large-flowered plants which are blooming when folks are mostly going to nurseries in the spring. Unfortunately, those are my least favorite kind, and I've only seen one of the hardy type 1's and 1 of the type 3's locally. For more than that, I'd need to travel more than an hour.

A few years back, one forum member put together this listing of mail order sources. The nurseries mentioned above are included, as well as many others. I personally have only had experience with Joy Creek (excellent plants, excellent customer service) so I would review these vendors with Garden Watchdog before actually placing an order.

I ordered two from joy creek nursery for the first time this year. They have an excellent selection and their prices are reasonable. They had a full pot of roots and were well worth the money.

SilverStar is pooping out too. Digging Dog in California has some. They are a great company too.

I just got 5 from Hite's. They look small but have really big root systems. At this time they are on sale - $9.99. I was very pleased! They are already putting on new growth after repotting.
