Iron

last modified: 10 years ago

I have not yet applied any iron to my lawn this year and I would like to do so.

Looking at the HD website, Ironite is about $18 for a 40# bag that covers 4ksf. But I'm noticing Milorganite also has 4% iron and the cost per ksf turns out to be slightly less than Ironite. It's also organic matter vs whatever filler Ironite has, I'm guessing lime. I don't mind the 5% nitrogen, the grass is under PGR right now, but does anyone know what kind of iron Milorganite has in it and how quickly it becomes available to the grass?

Any other cheaper sources of iron, preferably non-staining?Both Milorganite and ironite are about $4.5/ksf.
