Cutting not planted yet is starting to leaf

I have two cuttings I was planning on giving to a friend in another state. I have been storing them but a few days ago they started to leaf even though they are not planted. Can I continue to store them or do I need to put them in a pot ASAP? One is an actual cutting from this year (February) and the other was a broken, shriveled piece I found on the ground.

Hi there! Since this is the perfect time of year I would try to root them or send them to your friend as soon as you can, just kind of the sooner the better. If they sit around too long they can get dehydrated.
