We'd like to keep what we have and if we put the rod higher, the curtains would end up too short. Do you think it would look alright if we add a valance touching the ceiling in the same fabric as the side drapes. If so, any ideas what kind of valance would work? Thank you!

Your question was any suggestions on how to dress the window but if you want to keep what you have are you willing to alter them? Do you leave the sheers closed as they are in the picture all the time? Valances are dated just as what you have now is. I would hang the rod as MarleneM suggested and add a border to the bottom of the bottom of the beige panels to lengthen them. It also looks although hard to tell like you have too much beige. Is there more than 1 Panel on each side?

Hi, the reason I suggested raising them was because it would create more of a vertical line, therefore adding more height than width, which is what a wide window needs. Is there more than one window behind there? Even if not adding something to bottom and having curtains separated would help. I'll find a pic to show what I mean.

If you more than one beige panel per side, separate them like this? Another question, are the drapes and sheers on the same rod?

If you need privacy in the daytime and sun protection do solar shades you get to keep the ability to look outside and then add some more drapery panels to match and close them in the evening but i agree the type of pocket rod your are using is all wrong for the space those are usually for curtains in a kitchen or on a small window

Thank you for all your great suggestions and comments. This is my sister's house. Agree that it should be hung higher and on rings. It is one big window and thank you Marlene for the photo, helps a lot! They are only in 1 rod.
There are 2 side panels on both ends (total of 4). Will alternate them with the sheers as the photo and see how it goes.

Two separate rods would be best, and would look better from outside the house too, but if it's not in the budget or high on the priority list I understand trying to work with what you have. Here is a photo of a window where they're separated but still look to be on same rod. Try to have the sheers look not as full as the panels.
