I also agree, don't paint the beams to match your new wall color. That will give a choppy feel to the space. I personally like what the sellers did with the white ceiling, white walls - they created a focal point in the warm wood floors, and removed all the multicolored busy-ness created by the previous owners. The space had a lot of different vertical and horizontal lines with no symmetry, so painting all the upper areas one color creates a calmer, more expansive feel.
And the beams look like some sort of laminated product, so it's not like you lost real character by the sellers painting them. You can add warmth with art, furniture and accessories. I don't see the white beams as an issue. Good luck and congratulations on your new home.

I would strip those beams and expose the wood. If that color is not to your liking, stain it whatever you want ....

I agree strip the paint and then I would offer the suggestion to stain the wood to match the floor.

Please do not add another coat of paint to the beams. Let them blend with the ceiling. Another coat of paint only makes it harder on you, or the next owner when they go to strip the beams.

I think painting the beams white to match the ceiling created a look of a lower ceiling. Really, it reminds me of the movie THX1138. So pleased to know you are painting the walls.

Also to note, the beams were professionally sheetrocked. It will be a matter of demo-ing that and then staining the beams when we decide to expose them, so painting them won't cause any additional work. Thanks for all the feedback.

if they furred out the beams to apply the drywall, then it may be easier to remove the drywall than if they glued the drywall to the beams.

@Kelley Dockrey... Is there a way to tell if they furred them or not other than just going at it? Thanks!
