Replacing the cabinet hardware, sink / faucet and new ceiling light might be the cheapest.

Long term, you may want to replace the appliances, countertops and flooring.

Your cabinets appear to be in good condition although a little dated.

thank you, that's what I was thinking of beginning with

I would love to just gut it all but can't afford to I need kitchen crashers from Diy!

I like the wood wall. I would not paint that if it is real wood.
    What is behind the "island"?
I also notice it looks that you have 2 diff types of cabinets upper vs lower is that correct?
I believe they are different, I haven't officially moved in yet we close on it in may there is nothing but counter space behind that wall island very small space between wall and counter I'm definitely taking it down to open it up

If a renovation is in the foreseeable future, just do a few simple things which will not cost a lot. Remove the scalloped valance over the sink. Paint the cabinets a lighter color....perhaps an off-white would be okay with the wood and the counter. Change the drawer and cabinet pulls. Since the uppers and lowers are from different eras, consider removing the doors from the uppers (they are more dated than the lowers) and going with open shelving. As a vacation place, you will have less stuff in the uppers than in a full-time house. It looks dark because of all the wood. Reducing the amount of "wood color" will lighten the area.

Cheapest move is lose the little curtain, or change for a modern roll down that lets the light in if you need privacy.
yes definitely the curtain and valance is first to go thanks

Sorry, message left before I was done.

Cheapest move is lose the little curtain, or change for a modern roll down that lets the light in if you need privacy. I would also get rid of the curvy wood adornment over the sink.

New cabinet hardware would make a difference, and on the more expensive side I would change the red countertop to a white or any light neutral.

yes I'm gonna start out small and eventually get to the countertop thanks for the advice

Cathy I had not noticed the ceiling light, those fixtures are easily modernized and not expensive.. it appears to be fluorescent? white light is probably not the best cozy bet.

    ok thank you

Remove shelf (and valance) above sink. Remove extra microwave and curtain. If budget allows, look for white stove and fridge on Craigslist to match the other appliances.

thanks I haven't moved in yet we close on the house in may so the microwave doesn't stay and I am definitely getting rid of the curtain and valance

Very limited- I'd go red and kitschy. Keep the valance and paint the cabinets cream. Highlight the molding above the upper cabinets by painting it the same color as the countertop. Maybe stencil a stripe or two on the bulkhead. Hardware is fine- paint it glossy black or red. Fill in the grooves on the upper cabinets.

Older homes will all have problems. All. Used homes aren't new. Unless it's a foundation issue that the owners won't fix, there should be little that shows up in an inspection report to deter you from a purchase at the right price.

Sorry you didn't get it. I disagree with Sophie. There is a reason you have an inspection and yes, there can be issues that are uncovered which would definitely impact your decision to buy the house. Good for you to recognize the deal breakers. Wasn't meant to be.

thank you yes there were to many issues that we couldn't see just looking, I'm so thankful we got the inspection
