Hi mmorchardo, thanks for the question! This was a project that we did over 10 years ago now, so we don't have that exact information anymore. Even if we did, it probably wouldn't be too helpful, as soapstone costs can vary greatly depending on your location, the thickness of the slab, installation and shipping costs, etc.

Maintenance is fairly easy -- soapstone generally needs to be oiled every-so-often, but that's about it. It's much softer than other stones, so it will acquire dents over time (which you can see as imperfections, or personality! It adds richness and depth -- like a worn leather chair).

We have not used this company, but we like this article on care. For pricing information, our best advice is to look around. The costs will vary. Soapstone is not inexpensive, so you'll need to look at it as an investment. This article seems pretty good (also not an endorsement of their company).

Hi everyone, are y'all sure this is soapstone? It looks an awful lot like Indian Premium Black Leathered granite with an enhancer on the chisel to me. Only reason I ask, is because I'm doing research into whether or not one can chisel soapstone. I don't believe you can. Chisel on Indian Premium Black looks exactly like that. It is also a lot less expensive. I'd check that out as an option mmorchardo. Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Happy Houzzing and love your work Damian Farrell
