Agree with, Tommy. Far too late to try a dormancy period now. Harden them off and put them outside in full sun for the summer.

Well, Paul, I see you get around!!!! I sent you an email so I trust you won't be upset if I post my query here also. I recently purchased the following and want some cultural guidance. How do you give them a winter dormancy? Can these be fed any kind of insect or are some, like ants, not good?

Some bugs seems to chew through VFT traps or pitcher traps. You can't help it if those are caught naturally by the plant, but you can try to avoid giving it to them manually.

Which ones will do it will have to depend on your observation. An example is that some people say earwigs eat through their plants' traps, and others say earwigs are a great soft-bodied insect to feed to the pitchers or fly traps.

In my observations, I have a particular non-hairy caterpillar that shows up on certain kinds of vegetable plants. They are good to put into my VFT flytraps since I haven't seen them eat through a trap yet. The rollypolly bugs, or pill bugs, are also good for rolling them into a ball and dropping them down into pitchers.

Your alata is unlikely an alata. As we discussed earlier, do NOT grow it sitting in water as they were at Telly's.

The Sarr IDs are also suspect. Once they form some new pitchers we can check. Put the sarrs in full sun for the summer but keep them sopping wet.. (Keeping them standing in water is the easiest way.). They should catch bugs all on their own. Leave them out through frosts. Put the. In that cool spot in your greenhouse when we are due for hard freezes. Keep them drier (lightly moist) through the winter.
