I'd have the brick removed and resurface with a leather finished light colored stone. The leather finish gives the stone a more matte look and I think would go well with your wood work. Above top - my before; Above bottom - my after

I would paint the brick and see if that helps that is the least expensive option so worth a try

I would not paint the brick, it is very nice. I'd remove the surrounding mahogany, and add a mantle.

I think the whole wall looks pretty darned awesome! If you must change it, though, I'd go with paint on the bricks. Fast, cheap, and easy on the eyes.

It's a beautiful, classic look for a traditional room. I'd leave it as is.

I think it's beautiful too and don't think you should paint either. Artwork is maybe a bit dark, and I don't think you need the smaller pictures and decor on mantle. Often you see this style of FP with Windows above the bookcases, and I'm wondering if a couple of craftsman style mirrors on either side, along with just one piece of art in center would look.

Can you post pics of the rest of the room? So far the only thing I'd change is the wall color.
