Your table would have to be at least 72" according to the guide I found online. Here is what that guide said:

72” seats 10-12 people

84” seats 12-14 people

It depends on if you want a cramped table or a little more breathing room!

Exercise some caution on a round that seats more than eight ( 60'). Preferably that dimension and above would have leaves extending the table to seat more people. The conversational distance across a larger (72 and above) round, the table cloth issue ( much harder to find)......all more difficult.

Probably the reason banquet rounds usually seat eight at the weddings you attend : )

Jan, I agree with you and the reason being, 72" table will comfortably seat max of 8 people, anything above that they will be packed like sardines :-).

Many thanks for the thoughtful responses. My mother always had a round table because as she said "There is always room for one more..", a sentiment she truly lived by. Our country kitchen table can seat ten comfortably but perhaps three or four small round tables is the answer for occasions requiring twelve or sixteen place settings with a round dining table that could stretch to nine for family dinners (I hate crowding). Love hearing you ideas.

And of course you need to think about the space you have for this table. Measure an 84" circle in the room, then place some chairs around it. Is their comfortable scootch room? Will you be able to add a sideboard or buffet in the room?

In response to Carol, the actual floor space for the table is 14 feet square with a large pass through to the kitchen serving area and with the buffet set back in an alcove area well away from the seating space. I don't plan to have any other large pieces in the room as one wall has French doors to the deck and a third wall steps down to a living room? I think the idea of marking it out is a good idea.

Curious what you ended up doing. We too have a 14 ft sq room and I am searching for a round table that can accommodate 10-12 (10 comfortably, 12 at a squeeze). I have considered both jupe tables and those with exterior leaves.

I have not yet expanded my search to tables 72-80" that are not expandable--although I am open to the idea.

Did you end up finding a piece? how many does it fit?

Just opened up kitchen to dining area . I would love a round table in 11.5. By 12' space. Any thoughts?
