trim on stairs

I ripped up the carpet on theses stairs with plans to replace it. However, I was surprised to see that the wood under the carpet was bare (except for the ends where they weren't carpeted). so I decided to tackle sanding and staining and Im happy with the results. What is bothering me though is where the stair and riser meet. It isn't as clean looking as I would like, so I thought maybe some cove molding. The pictures show both options. I had the cove in green too and dint like it. The 2 foyers that the stairs are connecting have black doors so I tried the cove in black. Any opinions? Thanks!
