Hi Tracey, how old are the boys? There are many factors to consider. when I work with clients i take into account and consider, the use of the room, who will be suing the room, the personalities of those using it, the behaviours you want to evoke from that space. this space is obviously somewhere you want your boys to play freely and happily, to feel secure and safe? Whilst there is lots light in the morning the light will face quite a lot by lunchtime I assume? do not be afraid to use pink for boys. Pink, and depending on the shade used is a colour that is nurturing and will offer the boys a feeling of safety and security. I have 3 boys and for all their tough exteriors when they are small they need to a sense of security. If they don't get this they won;t play in there and will just be round your ankles in the kitchen anyway! I imagine (tell me if I am wrong) but you would like them to feel balanced, safe and secure? you could always consider a deeper green above the fireplace with a pink across the rest of the room? Whichever the colours you go for you must ensure they contain an element of black in them otherwise they will jar and you and the boys will not feel satisfied or comfortable in the room. This will then ensure the colours harmonise with the fireplace which is hugely important. I am sorry I cannot be more specific but without a consultation it is difficult to really hone in the exact colours you should use.
