That's work you don't mind doing. Good luck with both. I was fortunate to purchase Madame Butterfly from Parks Seed Company many years ago. It was the only time it was offered and I have not seen it offered again. It is pretty good at multiplying which is why I am able to share it. Still a couple of more to go out. One to Kristi and one to Fred. Then I may have to wait a while for her to do her thing and make some more babies.

The color of the flower is similar to Tosca, but the shape of the petals is different. Perhaps this is due to the conditions.

I'd seperate this Tosca away from Madame Butterfly Donna. Too risky. It could be something different or.... Abnormalities in flower color, petal shapes and vegetative growth are possible "signs" .

Well, maybe you've got a pink one!! It is very similar though so you might call her Pink Butterfly if you can't determine who she really is!! And yes, mine is definitely red. Did you put papilio pollen on yours yet?

Here is the Madame with all 4 flowers out. I've started to pollinate 2 flowers, the other two aren't quite ready yet. I hoping for a glut of seeds from her so I can send everyone some that I promised some to!! Keep your fingers crossed because you never know...

Hi Everyone,

Well, I've got bad news on my Madame Butterfly seedpods. It appears that the only one that has taken was the self. The one x aulicum was growing quite large but it didn't fill out the 3 chambers the way it should have and now it is withering. The other two appear not to have taken either. The one x papilio is 1/3 the size of the self and has started to whither as well as the mixed pollens pod. I am so disappointed, boo hoo..:-(

Also, my 2 pods on my red Tosca appear to have gone the way of all the others, formed to a pretty good size and then stopped and now are both withering.

So.. for those of you out there with a Madame, have any of you had any luck other than a self? One wouldn't think that a Madame would be so particular would one??

The huge one is the self. Granted, it is a bit closer to the camera but it really is huge. That poor withering one to the right is the aulicum. I had great hopes for the aulicum pod.....Oh well........

Donna, I'm sorry to hear that! I understand you very well because I had (and I fear still have) so many seedpods doing the same! But at least you have the self of Madame. Maybe they'll be as majestic as her mother and father.

The pods on my Tosca still look good but you know what may happen...

I'm so sorry for you :-(((( I swear this year is the worst for seeds. I had a bunch of seed pods on my Red Lion that were doing ok but it looks like they're goin' the way of the Dodo...dag nab it!!!! I'm not gonna quit though...something's gotta give. Good luck and keep tryin'.
