Hi Bob, Thank you for the question. The oak end grain block sits directly onto the top of our kitchen cabinet below. We cut out a shallow rebate into the underside of the block leaving just the front at full thickness. This gives it the impression of being thicker and than it is and of fitting through the front frame. The block was oiled before putting into place but is easily removable for cleaning and re-oiling. The silestone top was templated around the block and finishes a few millimeters below the height of the block. I hope that helps! Hamza
