Kitchen cabinets

We need to get new cabinet fronts for our upper cabinets. The lower cabinet fronts are painted black. All of the cabinets themselves are wrapped in copper and we plan on leaving it in place for fear of how it was applied and what will be underneath. The countertop is dark green and black stone.

The question is- what should we do with the new uppers as far as painting them, staining them, etc., goes? We could even get paneled vs. flat cabinets. Just no idea if we should go black to stay consistent, woof, or paint them a lighter color to brighten the space up
