Can you upload a floor plan? The best spot for the sink depends on the locations of the other appliances.

My sink is against the wall and I don't mind one bit that it's not in front of the window. I don't spend much time at the sink and when I do, I'm looking at the dishes, not at the wall.

It's more important to have it near the dishwasher than the a window. Typically you have the dishwasher and sink together. The stove within a few steps by either turning around or stepping to the side and the fridge to the other side. A work triangle. Easier to explain on paper.

On the wall putting in the island takes up prep space. Who wants to look at dirty dishes?!

on the wall... i agree, paired with the dishwasher on one side and trash pull out on the other. which order you do it should be based on which direction dirty dishes arrive from. scrape/pour-rinse/load.

dont worry about facing the blank wall.... these days folks spend very little time doing dishes compared to days of yore.

and i agree, sinks tend to be dirty dish magnets 24/7, not a great use of the island.

I have sink, to the right... Dishwasher.... Integrated trash... Stove...small cabinet... Lazy Susan corner cabinet ...turn corner fridge. Works for me. I would never want any sink on my island. Think when you entertain... Everyone hangs at the island. How can you prep a meal if people are standing there watching you do whatever....yuk. How charming to run the disposal in front of them! Lol

Depends on the layout of your kitchen. If you entertain while cooking it is nice to have the sink in the island so you can enjoy conversation with your guests (and a glass of wine?) while preparing a meal. If it does go against the wall I recommend open shelves above, rather than a cabinet so it feels more spacious when you are working there. My last home had the stove top on the island and I hated it. I know I would have felt the same with a sink. My vote is to put it on the wall and keep the island as a beautiful centerpiece in your kitchen.

my husband is the dishwasher-loading guru... if i put dishes in during the day he'd take them all out again anyway. thank heavens for a HUGE sink, everything just disappears into there all day.

short answer: think of your own routines and likes and see which advice makes the most sense for how you run your kitchen.

i agree with the majority -- on the wall. I love having a large island with nothing on it. Makes it great for entertaining, homework, crafts, etc! Sink would just be in the way.

In my first house I had sink against wall,but there was a huge mirror above sink which reflected the rest of kitchen. I really felt I had a window there. Definitely would not put in island.

Ours is also in our island and I love it. I think it partially depends on what phase of life you are in. We have small kids &I I spend a lot of time doing dishes so it's nice to be able to look at what's going on in the family room while doing them. I had the same concerns you do, but have actually really enjoyed it. I feel that it is helpful having the sink in my prep space as I can wash produce, rinse things, etc and move them right to the cutting board, bowls, etc. Also our sink is big so the dishes that aren't loaded aren't really in sight. The final point that I had a concern about that hasn't been a big deal is the idea that there will be less space and that the island won't be a big blank area to work. In my up onion a lot of people end up with mail, papers and odds and ends cluttering their island. I've found my island is much clearer in my current house than in my last house where the island had no sink. Anyhow, just my thoughts from my experience.

I too dislike having the sink or cooktop in the island. I prefer a solid workspace. If you have to put your sink against a wall, no window, consider some lovely design in the backsplash tiles, like you see above cooktops.
