Fun & Custom! I'm hooked on adding trim to panels or valances. I don't think it is a more formal look, specially if you use a fun and colorful trim

We've used it a lot in our workroom - casual or formal, it works with everything.

Love trim---the right trim. For our library curtains I picked a 1.5 inch wide multicolored braid that I thought would be bright enough on the green curtains. It didn't stand out nearly as well as I thought it would so we had it worked with embroidery thread in a lighter color after they were up. That was an expensive mistake on my part, ID pushed for a lighter trim but I wanted something more understated. He was right of course and even fixing it didn't make it perfect. But I will know better next time :-)

Thank you all for encouraging me to go ahead with the trim. I may be back for more advice!

i have added trim several times to plain panels and i think it's well worth the $ and effort!! doesn't necessarily make them more 'formal' looking (tho it can!) but just makes them look more 'finished'! there are so many nice trims...
