I'm working ahead ,,,

Paper Pinwheel block (MAY) - should the polka dot fabric be any color with white dots? Would pin dot fabric be acceptable or do you prefer larger sized dots?

Log Cabin block (OCT) - I will be using 11 different fabrics for this block. Correct? I understand that we'll be using WOW's/creams/tans for the light side of the block and purples/teals/turquoises for the dark side of the block. My question is in regard to the logs. Should I be doing an ombre/color gradient design with the logs (starting from the black center going light to dark)? That appears to the case in the sample block in the "2016 Block Lotto" post, but just wanted to confirm.

Hi Jen, I'll jump in here...as for the May block: I think a larger dot works better, but if you have Pin dot in your stash...Go for it! We are happy you are participating!

As for the OCT block...you and I are thinking the same...at least that's the way I read it as well. I'm loving the October block, anxious to get this one made.

On the May block, I used polka dots from my stash. If you click on the photo you can enlarge it. The yellow has larger dots, pink medium size and blue has tiny dots. We were just using any polka dot and white or white on white.

The October log cabin (my favorite block) please use OFF-WHITE, cream, light tans, NOT WHITE!! Yes, make the gradient light to dark, after the black center. The same goes for the creams, to light tans. OCTOBER - Log Cabin - KONA BLACK center / Cream/off white/tone-on-tone/light tan /Teals/ jades/ turquoise/purples

Understand, not white on the log cabin.

Another follow up question on the log cabin. The quilter's cache instructions say to complete the block going clockwise. However, it appears that the example blocks (at least the two non-purple ones) may have been completed going counter clockwise?! Not too sure, since it's really hard to see the seams in the photo. Anyway, should I construct the block going clockwise or counter-clockwise? I understand that either way will result in a light half and dark half, but the location of the seams will be different. So wasn't sure if that was important or not. Thanks.

I don't think it matters as long as you do the same direction within each block.

For me Log Cabin ended up being a great beginner block because you can square up after each round of logs. I went with purples because that's what I had on hand and made them clockwise. I will re-post a photo on the Oct thread when we get there. They are really pretty blocks - the photos don't do them justice. Not sure which block I like best this year (they are all so great), but Oct is definitely in the running. Thanks, again, for all your help!

When making the hearts I use uneven log cabin blocks. I want both sides to be mirror images so I make the blocks both clockwise & counter-clockwise.
