Freshening up front of house

The front of my house looks very dated. See picture attached. Any ideas as to how i can change it. It currently has a pebble dashed front which i am keen to remove. I am looking to get new doors and windows too.

Thanks

Isn't your neighbor's home the same surface? If you painted same colors your home front would appear larger from the "borrowed" view. I'd say that garden design and planting is what could make your home seem more appealing.

I hate the trim above the door and the door I would remove the stuff above the door install a nice metal and glass awning

double entry door and then paint the same color as the ajoining house that always looks better than all different colors , paint trim white too. I live in a MCM house in Canada with pebbledash and it is relly not a good idea to remove it I am told unless I want to totally redo my whole exterior . I know in Britain they have paint that is very good to use with this so check it out.And of course make the stoop larger and landscaping.

I don't like the arch over the door. Can you paint it to blend in? If you remove it I'm afraid there is no texture underneath. I really do not like the brown window trim and front door. I'd paint the windows off white or light beige and the door burgundy.

A fresh coat of paint on the trim will look good, after washing down the front of the house and removing the vine. The brick arch and front door add character. What the house really needs is new landscaping. Start by edging the walkway where the grass is encroaching. Then consider hiring a pro to design a landscape plan.

What climate zone or general geographic area?

Since the arch is brick, it's better to work with it than against it. Same with the pebble dash. I would widen your window trim and paint your door dark blue and match your neighbour's wall colour. Something like this:

@ emmarene the arch is their because the front door of this type of house was set back and this was the porch ..a lot of people added a second door to make a small hallway between the 2doors...I personally dont like the door like this.. I prefer the original door

Thanks a lot for all the comments. I intend to get new upvc windows in white; the same as my neighbours. I have spoken to them and they don't know what colour paint their house is painted. Not sure how to find out either.

I think that the arch above the door adds character but am open to changing the colour of the door. Blue seems a good colour.

    Thanks.

Here if you can get a chip of the paint the paint stores have a computer to match it. Or just get paint cards, then buy a sample size of a couple that seem closest. That blue door color is nice, as is a shiny black paint with perhaps one or two big containers of flowers, grasses and a small evergreen plant on each side? Seems to me your front could have a lovely Victorian flavour - either cottagey or townish depending on your likes. Since I like to sit and watch the birds I would put a round planting of various smallish bushes (in scale to the house) out from your bay window. Making it round would echo the trim and give relief to all the straight edges.

Isn't it meant to have shingle siding?

Ryan, is there any chance of moving the door back? Thank you for the info Snaggy, it makes sense now.

I am not sure if i can move the door back.

Here is a view from the inside.

I would put some kind of mini blinds at the downstairs window. I can see all the way into your fireplace which is a little disconcerting.

Love the arch over the door. Landscaping will do wonders.

Dont worry about updating your house. It has lots of character! Embrace it!

Start with removing the archway from above the doorway, the doors and surround are great and look gorgeous from inside, they just need to be painted out a darkest charcoal. If you are looking to remove the pebble front, consider stucco right over it. The new techniques are gorgeous, keeping it a pale neutral colour. Consider adding interior shutters to the bottom 3/4 of your living room window for more privacy. And some landscaping as well as a new fence painted out to match the stucco. Then go with vstavays suggestion for the landscaped front space. That would look great. The best of luck!
