I believe the dowels are 5" apart, but together with the closet company, we actually played with a shoe, a dowel, and the inside height of the drawer, as we had to make sure the drawer would close.....good luck.

As I said together with the closet company we had to play with an actual dowel and a shoe to get the inside height....the outside height of the drawer is in 1 1/4" increments, so the drawer was 7 1/2", 8 3/4", or 10". We also had to play with the depth.....traditionally this closet company has 16"D (outside-front to back) drawers......hope this helps.
