Waiting is the only thing you should be doing. It is still very early in the season and they are probably fine. Very little is growing here yet either.

Virginia creeper isn't like Clematis, many of which benefit from hard pruning. Virginia creeper needs no pruning at all, other than to remove parts that have grown too large or that have been damaged such as broken by rambunctious dogs.

I half-heartedly transplanted some creeper at the peak of a Georgia August and even though it looked as if it died it came back very strong this spring. It is a hard vine to kill or mess up.

Here in Georgia at least I haven't been impressed with it's fall color so far.

Checked on a bunch of new plants we installed along a fence at a stormwater pond last fall. All are greening up as I write.
