Kitchen help!!

Has anyone ever ordered custom cabinets stained and then not liked the color so had them painted after they were already installed? Or send them back to be painted? Or has any companies had this happen to them by totally crazy people like myself? I'm totally freaking out bc the colors aren't matching right, now that the cabinets are in the kitchen and I'm debating if I either take them out to send back and have painted, or complete the rest of the kitchen and live with it hoping once everything is completed it'll be okay. This is supposed to be my "forever kitchen" so I'm really worried it will forever bother me until I give up and paint them.

The stained cabinets on the left look great. The painted cabinets on the right look very flat. You can't really match stained cabinets and painted cabinets. I would leave the stained cabinets as is, and have the painted cabinets repainted in a completely different color - cream, expresso brown, or a color like green or something, depending on your other finishes and the rest of the room.

Hi. So sorry that your color matching didn't work out quite right. Consider getting them back to your kitchen designer prior to completing the install. There are professionals who can stain match for you.

Do what you have to do but I am curious, what do you dislike about the cabinet color? I like it fine. It is the wall color I would change

Emma, what color would you suggest for the walls? I'm very open to suggestions.
& Cali, the cabinets to the right were just stained! Like less than a week ago! That is my concern exactly is that they don't look stained at all they look painted! I LOVE the built-in cabinets to the left, color and everything and was attempting to match that in the cabinets to the right, it obviously did not work out so I'm trying to figure out what to do next to salvage my whole kitchen... Any and all help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I don't even know how to approach this with the cabinet maker, but need to speak with them today... :(

Stained on site? You have a fake cabinet maker. Quality cabinets are finished in a clean room, by an expert. Also, the wood is not the same species, which is the primary culprit.

I love the cabinets on the left. I do not know what happened to the ones on the right but you should have this fixed by whoever did this.

IMO these are 2 different types of wood in which case the stain will never take the same and the ones on the left look older too those 2 things will make it impossible to get the exact same color. The style of new ones is very different too. If it was my space I think I would paint the ones on the left and keep them as a focal point and leave the ones on the right the way they are.

They weren't stained on site, they were stained where they were made. The cabinets to the right are maple and the left I believe are birch but like others have mentioned, are very old. I had custom made cabinets with the intent to match the old built-ins (to the left) as much as possible, but it didn't really work out. Just looking for ideas on what I could do to help everything look as good as possible. Open to painting the cabinets on the right, definitely don't want to paint the built-ins to the left though. Any color suggestions (cabinets, wall, etc) would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with you painting the cabinets on the right since the older cabinets match the doors and woodwork (beautiful BTW). Painting the cabinets off white would be beautiful with the color of the older cabinets. For the walls, a soft yellow would be beautiful!
