You could try it on one orchid but why bother? In the good old days the optimum bark here was Fir bark but then the supply dried up and the base material here is now treated Radiated Pine bark from Plantations. Treated to adjust the Ph and to make it last a little bit longer. Untreated pine bark is readily available and cheap but not good for orchids.

Thank you Arthur. I thought they just look so good laying on the ground layer by layer and thought if I can use it, I will. Those darn beavers!!...They cut down beautiful trees....

I would give it a try. Recycle, and the orchids might enjoy it. Try it on a few plants. I wouldn't use it for all your orchids.

Not all bark is good for orchids. What I know from my experience oak bark is ok, pine bark is ok, fir bark and of course, osmunda (but this is not bark). All other kinds are not suitable because of wrong PH levels.
