We have had a Roomba for several years. Actually wore the first one out and had to replace it . Had to get a new battery too. You can get a better battery online than Roomba uses. Ours does the surface dirt. My wife did not like setting up the little towers to hem it into a specific area, so she just puts it in a room and closes the doors and lets it run. We have an open floor plan in our living/dining/family/kitchen area so she just mostly uses her Kirby upright there. We need to use the Kirby for deep down dirt. Mostly use the Roomba in bedrooms and hallways. The only thing I don't like is the cleaning out part. You don't just dump it; you need to disassemble it and clean the brush and untangle threads and hair that get wound up on it. It is neat for going right under beds and tables with cross bars between the legs that are a problem for an upright.
