A few weeks ago, I laid some 1" marble hex mosaic on a bathroom floor. I used a notched trowel that was, I think, 1/4" notches. Whatever the normal size is. Anyway, this seemed to leave humps that were too big and easily squished between the tiles in many places.

I am considering a 3/4" square marble mosaic for my kitchen backsplash and am wondering if there is a different or better way to adhere these tiny tiles to avoid all the thinset coming through?
