Joni sells both of these, so I have to assume they are two different species. I grow a couple different clones of meredithii x crassicaulis, but not plain meredithii.

Very nice. I ordered mine from ricinfl, the leaves in the photo look more like the vitellinoides. I sure wish there was more information out their on these. I will see how it grows, and maybe later get vitellinoides for comparison.

I bought a few cuttings from him last week! Including the so called meredithii which does look just like Denises vitellinoides. Ill post a picture in a sec, they cuttings all came fast and well packaged and included a few freebies that I don't have. Already have them all set up and the waiting game has begun!

Well not to get you too excited but that was also purchased as a 2 node cutting!!! I bought four cuttings all together and they were all mighty generous.

Fingers crossed. I have already been a pain in the butt on this order, with the incorrect address deal, so we will see!

But yeah, pretty sure he is going to be my new go-to for cuttings. One of them at least, I can't not check the ebay stores of people on the board first for what I am looking for.

I've always been eyeing ricinfl's cuttings on eBay but they seem so expensive for just cuttings. I don't always have success with rooting. Are his cuttings worth the price? I'd rather buy an established plant from Gardinos for a few dollars more.

I have never bought from Gardinos to be honest. I have a pretty small plant budget to work with, and do not mind rooting. I have had pretty good luck with cuttings, I lost some back in November largely due to the time of year (and my letting a couple get to dry), but even then I have had pretty good success rates. Oh, and a lacunosa that got a bit beat up in the mail went south on me, that species I would only buy as a plant at this point.

A lot of growers say cuttings are better as they experience less shock during transit, I have no opinion on this. I have recieved rooted plants from various places and have had no issue.

For me it is largely about availability at this point, and what can I afford. I would rather get 2 new species than 1, and grow them up myself most of the time. I was considering buying 2 plants from Gardinos and with shipping it was around $50. For that, I could easily get 4-6 Hoya from ricinfl, or add another $8 bucks in shipping costs and get a mystery 10 pack of generously sized cuttings from Jan.

As my collection grows I find more and more my tastes are for harder to find species and cultivars, and gardinos often does not carry these. There is also the not to be denied thrill of opening a plant order to discover surprise bonus Hoya!! I also like to think that cuttings are potentially better adapted to my growing conditions, but that is entirely speculative at this point. I do very much enjoy the baby stages, and nurturing a "stick" into a full blown plant!

Some of my most rare* Hoyas have come from rareflora (Gardino's on eBay), and some of them were for a very, very good price. Cannot beat Gardino's for packaging either; Paula takes it to the next level and after dozens of orders, I've never had a plant arrived damaged even if the PO kicked a hole in the box.

I will have to check their ebay site too. I have only looked at their regular store, and only recently has my plant budget increased...

Ric's cuttings are expensive ONLY if they are rarer or new to him. And what he advertises as 2 nodes often ends up being at least 5. In my 2+ years of ordering from him, only one suffered detrimental damage in transit. Even then, I let him know what happened (baaad weather), and he sent me a freebie. Well-worth it, considering he will ship all cuttings for $6.99 shipping flat. I think he might have a cutting amount cap for shipping, but it is some high cap I haven't reached yet, lol.

As for Gardino's, a great place to buy from! Never had issues with their plants (only bought a few, as they sell mostly what I already have, but their auctions on ebay can become prohibitive. Then again, a couple of weekends ago, MY auctions became prohibitive! Shocking! I think I had a 2 node unrooted cutting (was in process of being rooted) of sp. Gunung Gaiding START at $9.99 and it sold for $102.00. I bought the huge mother plant for that price! But, if you're willing to pay...I felt so GUILTY though, even though it was not my fault.

Oh my goodness! Maybe I should add guning gading to my Thailand order, I will never be able to get one off ebay at those prices. But hey, good for you!

I was into Haworthias for many years - still have several. There are Japanese hybrids (mostly variegates) that would sell for upwards of $500 FOR A PUP! Can you imagine losing a $500 plant? I thought, these have to be people who have "throw-away" money. I wish I had some of that! LOL! Even today, there's one on eBay that has 2 bids, it's up to $130, and it's got a couple of damaged leaves! See it here

Like Tulip Mania! @aurorawa that was awesome! A couple of us were secretly clapping for you, lol. I mean, people want what they want. Way back in the day, I used to live next to a nursery and sell some medium rare (for the time) cuttings on eBay, and there would be the most ridiculous bidding wars on (wait for it) Philodendron 'Brasil'. Then again, I've participated in some fairly insane bidding wars myself, so...Anyway, timing is everything. I've seen rarer Hoyas listed on eBay that sell for over $100 one week and then zero interest the next. I think that's called whimsy! :D

Don't even get me started on rare hatching eggs or fancy goldfish....

Denise, I saw one of those Haworthia go for over $1,500 last summer. Just crazy to me. But again, if you want it and can afford it, well it is your hobby and your money. And I might be just a tiny bit envious...

Thank you all for buying my cuttings. And don't worry about the cuttings not rooting. I'm good with replacing if I can and refunding if I can't replace. For those that are starting out or on a limited budget , I offer surprise boxes and I usually send one or two of the more unusual Hoyas.

And I always add a cutting as an extra to every box. I just love opening a box with a surprise.

I love my cuttings, having a hard time getting H. treubiana to root, any tips? Everything else from you has rooted.

As far as I know they are the same. I Google's it and it said Hoya vitellinoides aka Hoya meredithii. I love the leaves and I am considering buying one.

I think you are right Lisa. I will keep mine in my records as meredithii since that os what I purchased it as. I am quite happy with the large cutting I recieved from ricinfl, on all counts.

Thanks Ric. I will keep that in mind. I bagged it, in my usual way (open on top, under my fluorescent). I will keep my hand light with the watering too. I am not overly worried, the cutting is still plump and healthy. Probably just need to forget it exists for a little bit. ;)
