I have been growing ostrich ferns in my garden for about 10
years. The plants have spread well and I harvest fiddleheads for eating for
several days. I began my first harvest
yesterday. I am impressed with how fast the fronds grow. I can almost harvest do two harvests per day
starting with the early morning and ending with one in the early evening. I
clean the brown flakes off as much as possible, rinse, and simmer the fronds
for 10 minutes. After draining the water, I splash with an herbal vinegar. They
are a wonderful spring time vegetable. I
