This
is my apple blossom, purchased from Royal Colours like most of my original
varieties.

It
comes up faithfully year after year and has even produced one or two offsets
along the way. It’s lovely, and I’d love
to grow more from seed, but everybody seems to agree: apple blossom does not set
seed. My own attempts to pollinate it
have certainly all failed. However,
there do seem to be a couple of ways of getting apple blossom-like plants from
seed.

The
first one described in this post is to use pollen from apple blossom to
pollinate another variety as close as possible in appearance. I have two that fit this description firstly
San Remo:

a more recently acquired one, rosy star:

I
have tried pollinating rosy star and some seedlings from 2014 are still
growing. San Remo x apple blossom was
tried in 2011, and I’m pleased to say that it generally works. This year I have seen 20 or more individuals. Some of them are predominantly pink

while
some are even a darker red

For
the most part, though, the offspring have a pleasing apple blossom-like
appearance

So this seems like a promising way to go.
