A new rug for my living room

I need a rug for my living room but I am not sure about the color. I would like some advice, if possible. I like modern, classic with some color. Thanks.

Looks like you've hit the "modern classic" note nicely. I'd try a rug with cream, and that nice cafe au lait light brown in the side chair, and maybe a little yellow and red in the rug too, to draw in all your current colors? Or keep the room monochromatic and go without the accent yellow and red and choose a rug with the varying shades of cream and brown, in a graphic pattern. Not that you asked, but I'd suggest removing the many small photo frames from the mantel and instead hang one larger piece above the mantel, for example, artwork, or an enlarged photo landscape you or a loved one took? Maybe move all the small pieces form the mantel and hang them in a group with little space between each one on a narrow wall else where? I like your livelong room!

Does the artwork over the sofa need to be rehung, lower? Usually artwork over a sofa distance is about 6-8". I think people always worry about heads banging the artwork, but that generally doesn't happen unless you have the most crazy party ever, with too many libations, or if you have wild and young children, which is like a crazy party anyway in which case you are concerned about other things not artwork over a sofa.

The Ikat chair is lovely but is at odds with the art over the sofa. Can you find another spot for that painting? Maybe this from PB could take it's place?

Love Beverly's last choice - gray with yellow. Also, yes please do switch the art work over the sofa. BEAUTIFUL room.

Room is fine, art and positioning of art is fine. I don't think you need a rug. I love the room - love the art, the artistic side chair. Beautiful. A mirror - over the fireplace - hung above eye level - could bring in some nice light, reflection, expansion perhaps. Could be rectangular - but even a small to medium round mirror would work; mirror doesn't have to be that big. But - the room is absolutely fine the way that it is. The floor is beautiful - and the style does not need a rug. If you must have one - I would go for a light ivory/white with a thin red border. I would keep it along the lines of a solid white or ivory - to keep it as a clean backdrop and to not conflict with the art. But, again, the room works really well the way that it is.

You have absolutely great taste and a beautiful space.

    All the best.

i love, love, love the Ikat fabric and Beverly's last rug choice, with Leelee's picture from PB. I would also suggest an interesting mirror over the mantle with the candlesticks. what a lovely room!

The mantel definitely needs something large, a statement piece. Remove the smaller frames and decor.

I would go with a bold black and white design...it will really make everything pop with contrast...I would change out your art frame to dark espresso or black. I love your accent chair fabric just beautiful...here are a couple pillows to add to your sofa.

Art over sofa needs to be lower. You need something large over the mantel as well. I'll return after I fix it.

I just got a better look at your floor; it's beautiful. I wouldn't cover it with a rug.

I saved your money and spent it on a framed Rothko instead, and some enormous candlesticks that echo the shape of your lamp from Restoration Hardware because you need something big on the mantel. I also cleared off your coffee table and lowered the art over the sofa. I think this room is done.

That looks like a great room! Remember
always be sure when you have a rug on a hardwood floor, especially in a room
that gets a lot of sun like your living-room. Be sure to move your rugs on
occasion to get even consistency in the color of your hardwood floor and keep
the color looking beautiful for years!
