Earnest Markem Clematis.

No wonder why I could not identify this Clematis. I get conflicting information when looking this up. Some information I have seen says blooms in June-July, another website said mid to late summer, and the third said blooms through August-October. Some websites say Group 2, some say Group 3. All I know is this bloomed the very beginning of April. Thank you for your help. I'm sticking with Ernest Markam.

Anytime. Ernest Markam was one of my first clematis. I bought it from Home Depot some 12 years ago. I got hooked to clematis and now have around fifty different types in my one acre property. Now I don't have any more sunny spots to add more. So I switched to hellebores which thrive in shade and deep shade. Incidentally both happen to be from the same family - Ranunculaceae.. I have twenty types of hellebores and adding more.

Yes, it looks just like my Earnest Markham. With your warmer zone it would be blooming now, mine is covered in buds and should bloom soon. Mine I treat like a Group three, as it is a group 3 for me, in my climate. It is hard to take all the information and access what is correct. I am not sure what climate they base their bloom times on, but you have to consider your zone, and the amount of sun it gets.

Another vote for Earnest :).
