Very nice. Too bad about the dishwasher placement. Not knowing anything about those big drainboard sinks, I wonder if there was a reason she couldn't put dishwasher on left instead. Or maybe it was purely aesthetics.

I can't remember the last time I have to have the dishwasher and oven opened at the same time. Why would you? On the other hand, sometimes I do have the diswasher open while cooking at the cooktop so I can toss in the prep bowls and utensils as I go. So in the Acorn Hill kitchen, the DW would be in the way, but putting it on the other side of the sink would be pretty far for me.

how cute are those number knobs? When the guys ask "where do we keep the toaster?" I can just say "behind door # 2!" And wave my arm like Carol Merrill.

That kitchen would make me happy every time I walked in - love just about everything about it. Would love to know the source for those pendants - yum!

I'm another one who doesn't see the big problem with opposing DW and oven doors. Perhaps in a busy family with lots of kids and many people accessing the kitchen for different functions at the same time it would be problematic. But since I'm the chief cook AND bottle washer (and don't do them at the same time!) it's not an issue.

I love the entire home! The dishwasher wouldn't bother me one bit!

Yes, I guess in a one cook kitchen you might not need to use them both at the same time. But I strongly believe that people are being short-sighted if they design a kitchen for one worker. Hello, kids are the best free labor!!! :). I would also worry about accidentally damaging/scratching one of the appliances if both doors were inadvertently opened at the same time, most likely by kids or guests.

I love a vintage drainboard sink! The kitchen is a little sleek for my taste, but it's a great remodel and use of space. It looks as if the DW was put on the right side of the sink because it fit better--if it had been placed on the left there wouldn't have been space for the EZ-Reach corner. (I have to admit that I check DW placement in every online kitchen, every magazine pic, every RL kitchen I see, thanks to GW and funkycamper ;).

It's amazing what some paint and lighting can do for a space, especially the front hall. (Is that actually carpet on the stairs or fabric?) The one thing that would drive me up a wall is the informal dining. If you sat at the bench you'd be whacking your head on that picture rail. Maybe it's an exercise is sitting up straight?

Thanks for the link; that was a fun little tour! They've done a great job overall. The kitchen is probably my least favorite part of the whole house. I echo mamag, it's a little too sleek, not enough vintage for me. I think the whole no uppers thing is a trend that can look okay, but doesn't fit as well in older, more traditional homes.

I do appreciate her eye for decor; there's some great pieces of art.

In that kitchen, I think it would be hard to forget that the DW door is open when you go to open the oven...because you would have to reach over it.

I think an important lesson for kids to learn is that if you have a responsibility, part of that responsibility is knowing the optimal time to carry it out. So, emptying the dishwasher while mom or dad is basting the turkey is NOT the time to do that. Logistics, it should be part of STEM in schools, but it doesn't work with the acronym lol!

I think I'd want the DW on the left so no one has to walk around someone else to put their plate in, and so it's easy to put dishes in the cabinet right there. The Acorn Hill family uses it as a pantry/ appliance cupboard, but I think I'd use some of it for dishes,

Mush I used to have that exact towel holder!! (it has horns so it's a bull, right?) It was a wedding shower gift a million years ago so they've been around a long time! Look what comes up when you google it - guess they're vintage which means I am, too!

Ha! I missed the towel cow, but I have one hanging on my front porch. She has a chipped horn and a chipped ear, and she used to hang in my grandmother's kitchen. Since our place used to be a dairy farm, I thought her a fitting ornament for the porch.

You guys are too funny. :) mamagoose, he/she would ge a GREAT porch decoration. I barely have room for towels, much less towel animals, in my kitchen but my porch wall....

I understand why the DW is where it is. If you count up the cabinet space, it's the only way to get the sink completely centered under the window without wasting/losing space in the lower run, unless you have a pretty wide range of cabinet widths to choose from. I'm not sure I would have made that decision, but it's understandable. Very pretty kitchen.

I 'won' my cow towel on ebay. I found a 'deluxe' model, with a hole in the mouth and another hole on top, supposedly for a ball of string, and the scissors to cut it. I guess you'd have to take it off the wall to replenish the string, but it would be worth it for the conversation value. I'll post a pic when I get it and mount it.

I have to say that I rather liked many of the (guessing 1980's) wallpapers in the befores, although there was far too much of it!

I wouldn't have guessed what a difference in effect just cleaning up those pulls would make! Didn't like before, do like now!

Nice remodel! I'll show my age and say that I had a towel cow (Macy's) purchased when they first came out decades ago. My mom, her mom and my sister had them too - goose, pig and rooster. I sold mine in a garage sale when we moved 10 year ago, but hadn't used since we remodeled that kitchen (didn't want to put that many holes in the new cabinets!).
