Wall behind bathroom sink

I am installing a Kohler Ceramic Impressions vanity top sink that has a tiny lip to prevent water overflow. I was thinking of not putting a backsplash around it. Would a painted wall hold up to wipe downs and water splashes? I have two kids using the bathroom daily so I expect toothpaste mess, etc.

consider instead of a backsplash a swath of square 2" tiles to the ceiling, and to the floor if your vanity stands away from the wall. 2" tiles are really inexpensive and you could make quite the design statement.

The backsplash in a design usually serves a purpose to protect the wall and not allow water to seep behind the cabinet. Even when a caulk/silicone is used you will see over time as settling occurs it will pull away, and if this is a high-use space it will be put to the performance test even quicker. If this was a powder room I don't think it would be an issue, but I wouldn't recommend relying solely on that little lip in a well used children's bathroom.
