It depends on the type of plant (det. vs. indet.), how you support the plants, how much pruning of them you want to do, how much of a crop you are content with, and the level of care and nutrients you provide them.

2 plants can easily fit into 6x4 with some space left over. 3 with some pruning and good support structure. You could probably even get 6 or 8 if you want to stake them, stagger plant them, and prune them to a single stem only.

So with 2 tomato plants, some moderate pruning and a bit of crop loss, plus some extra nutrients I think an eggplant or 2 could also go in. Cukes might make it over-crowded unless you grow them up a trellis at one end.

That's what I thought too, just wanted some confirmation. I am adhering to our local master gardeners program recommendations regarding planting and growing.

It is your decision. 6 by 4 is equal to 24 sq-ft. If you give 4 sq-ft per plant you can easily plant 6 tomatoes in that bed, in two rows staggered or just simple 2 rows. .
