Well, Jay, it seems like you've already just about had your share of rain for 2016. : ) Seriously, I hope you get a lot more so you can have the best garden year ever, and I hope the cold weather is about done with you. Warm weather is so much better. I hope the hail wasn't too bad. We've already had hail twice this year, but it was pretty small each time.

We came through just fine last night, but some forum members had hail, some had flooding type rains, and OKOutdoorsman lost his entire roof and had his garden shredded. His greenhouse, however, remains intact.

With such a diverse, far-flung gardening family, I guess it is inevitable that some of us will get hit from time to time. And, like other Okies, Texans and Kansans before us, whoever gets hit finds a way to work through it and rebuild and become stronger. It's what we do, isn't it? We just keep on keeping on.

Keep us posted on your great rainfall. It is hard to imagine you having 8" especially before May 1st.

So my average rainfall is 20 inches Dawn. It is measured in mm per month. Lol

The hail did more damage to some stuff than others. some tomatoes lost all their leaves and blooms some only half. My early doll still hanging tight to her 1 fruit! Cabbage and all greens shredded carrots are fine. Hopefully everything will come back with a vigor to fight. Hope to get a good rain this week.

That's not a terribly high amount but it isn't bad. Is your soil sandy? And, at least it is measured in mm per month and not mm per year.

Most plants I've had damaged by hail have come back fine, but plants whose growth comes from a central growing point (like corn and onions) may not come back if the central growing tip is broken. It is amazing how quickly plants recover from hail if they already had a good root system.

I am just the opposite of you right now Kim---we are wet and drowning in mud after a very rainy April (over 2.5" just in the last week) so I am hoping for no rain this week. We have a 50% chance of rain tonight. I hope the rain fails to materialize.
