Need help with my living room walls

Hello,

My husband and I live in a two bedroom apartment for 3 years now. I need help with the living room walls. I have thought about a mirror on one wall and art work on the other.

Can someone please advise??

Thank You,

Carol

What you need is art and a new rug. A mirror should reflect something beautiful or interesting that you'd like to see twice, like a chandelier or great view. I would do large art, maybe a matched set, on both walls. Then find a rug and new pillows that pick up the colors from the art. Rug should slip under the front 1/3 of the seating, all the way under the chaise, and extend past the sofa ends by a foot or more.Check out greatbigcanvas.com

Agree with decoenthuiste! You need a much bigger, more colorful rug and big color art for the walls. These are decorative furnishings that go with you when you go!

Artwork is something you have to love. Something that makes you smile or invokes a feeling each and every day it's hung on your wall. It's a pain to move when you are talking about a larger piece.

In order to give you a better idea on how to decorate this space it would be great to see more of the area that is view-able from this room. Is it possible to take more images?

From the limited view you have offered I suggest changing the lamp shade to a more vibrant color or hand painting even wallpapering a design.

Consider some DIY art with hand painted anaglypta wallpaper or fabric on blank frames. This will allow you to inexpensively create art in your preferred colors. You can create multiple frames directly on the wall too, using a non marring adhesive to hang the rails.

Firstly I would change the colour on the walls, brighter colours makes a room appear larger than it is so seeing that your sofa is white or cream from the photo I would choose a light colour based around what is preferable to you. Bring the walls alive by adding a huge piece of art work , painting or a mirror. Somehow mirrors and art does magic. Pair the walls, for example if you add art to one wall add a mirror to the opposite. Create a focal point in the room. I think it shoul be the wall with the tv, since you sit facing that wall.Give the room a wow factor by possibly adding wall paper( a black and white design floral, or optical you choose) to one of the walls or part possibly down the center maybe at the back of the television This adds texure. Place the tv on the wall as opposed to using a tv cabinet, creates a sense of space and a cinematic feel. Add a bigger lamp /shade . If you must use a rug add a rug that covers the entire area of the sofa width with side tables placed at either end of the sofa. Extend the sofa by adding a foot rest or a square wooden box wher the sofa ends, make the sofa appear bigger. Match the side tables with the wooden box. Replace the light nearest the door with a chandelier.

If you like decorating with plants place a huge one to the right corner of the tv this will bring to life all that you have placed on the walls. Replace your cushions with a mix of leather and prints to add texture. good luck and hope this helps.

If you have natural light across from your far wall, that would be a great place for a large, horizontal framed mirror. It will reflect the light. Look for one framed in a dark wood. Then use art on the wall across from the TV, to incorporate your brighter pillow colors. Keep the artwork on a large scale, maybe two or three large squares, and incorporate your pillow colors.

cmd9815, when I put together a room or home, I like to assemble a board with all my selections to make sure everything relates. Here are examples of two boards.

When selecting a rug, it should fit into your other furnishings, and all I can see presently is a sectional and media cabinet.

Here are some of my favorite choices, but whether they will work for you, I just don't know.

Adding art and color from the art in this space will totally change the feel here. And the nice thing is....you basically have a blank canvas and can go with any color you want right now.

Do you want lots of color? or more tone on tone with minimal pops of color....I think your space is very nice just needs more textures and interesting art....if in the budget a larger rug would look nice. I love zgallery and the art is wonderful. I think a mirror is needed to reflect any light you do have and add some sparkle...than you can add a set of art work on the other wall..rather than one large piece.

Art.com...you can look at so much and customize frame and usually have a few choices in size. They have canvas art to.

did you not like any on zgallery? I still feel they offer the best in modern/contemporary art..unless you are looking for one of a kind hand painted art...go on Etsy.com

What size rug do you have in the space now?

I am not a fan of mirrors so I would paint the wall behind the tv with a strong accent color and hang artwork over the sofas.

I am not crazy about a strong accent wall exspecially behind a TV.....
not a spot you would want to highlight....doesn't have to be a mirror but the mirror I posted is more of a piece of art and will only reflect light. It is very large and would really make a statement.

Art.com, Great Big Art are good sites & often have 40-50% off sales. You can also choose your sizes too on GBA. Only you can choose your art. Pick the rug first, if you buy a bigger one, then You'll have some inspiration from the colors in the rug.

The rug I'd 69x93 .. I like the mirror , not sure about the orange in the picture. I think I need a softer color... But not sure what color.

What color would you like as just as accent....in pillows and rug. Only do soft neutral calm art.
